Thailand’s Auto Production Drops 13.62% in Feb 2025 – Pickup Trucks Plunge 42.10%, Exports Down 9.48%

Thailand's automotive production in March 2025 totaled 129,909 units, marking a 12.49% increase from February, supported by sustained growth in battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs). Nevertheless, overall production declined by 6.09% year-on-year, primarily due to a decrease in export-oriented output and a drop in pickup truck manufacturing.

April 29, 2025 - Mr. Surapong Phaisitpattanapong, advisor to the chairman and spokesman of the FTI's Automotive Industry Club, revealed the following production figures for March 2025:

Total car production

The total number of vehicles produced in March 2025 was 129,909 units, up 12.49% from February 2025 but declined by 6.09% year-on-year. 

- Passenger cars: 45,588 units, 12.50% decrease (YoY) 

  • Internal Combustion Engine (ICE): 18,451 units, down 41.71% 
  • Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV): 5,412 units, an increase of 341.44% 
  • Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV): 2,360 units, showing a 289.44% increase.
  • Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV): 19,365 units, up 4.21%

- Buses under 10 tons and over 10 tons were not produced in March 2025.
- Trucks: 84,321  units, down 2.22% (YoY)
- 1 Ton Pickup trucks: 83,417 units, 0.25% increase (YoY)

  • Single-Cab Pickups: 10,582 units, down 32.65%
  • Double-Cab Pickups: 56,138 units, up 2.88%
  • Pickup Passenger Vehicles (PPVs): 16,697 units, an increase of 29.13%

- Pickup trucks less than 5 tons – over 10 tons: 904 units, down 70.09% (YoY)

Car production for export

In March 2025, the car production for export totaled 83,217  units, representing 64.06% of the total production, a decrease of  9.36% (YoY)

- Passenger cars produced for export totaled  14,022 units, a decrease of 51.18% (YoY)
- One-ton pickup truck for export at 69,195​ units, inecreased 9.68% (YoY)

  • Single-Cab Pickups: 5,168 units, an decrease of 7.93%
  • Double-Cab Pickups: 50,675 units, up 8.68%
  • Pickup Passenger Vehicles (PPVs): 13,352 units, increased 23.08%

Car production for domestic sales

In March 2025, there were 46,692​ units produced for domestic sales, representing 35.94% of the whole production, representing a 0.36% increase (YoY).

- Passenger cars for domestic sales totaled 31,566 units, an increase of 35.01% (YoY)
- One-ton pickup truck at 14,222 units, 29.32% decrease (YoY)

  • Single-Cab Pickups: 5,414 units, a decrease of 46.39%
  • Double-Cab Pickups:  5,463 units, a decrease of 31.20%
  • Pickup Passenger Vehicles (PPVs):  3,345 units, increased 60.66%

- Buses under 10 tons and over 10 tons were not produced in March 2025. 
-  Pickup trucks at 904 units, declined 70.09% (YoY).
