Thailand’s Auto Production Drops in July, but BEV Output Surges 554%

Total vehicle production fell 15% to 110,616 units, while battery electric vehicles (BEVs) skyrocketed 554%, offsetting declines in conventional passenger cars and pickups.

August 25, 2025 - Mr. Surapong Phaisitpattanapong, advisor to the chairman and spokesman of the FTI's Automotive Industry Club, revealed the following production figures for July 2025.

🔹 Monthly Production – July 2025

  • Total vehicles produced: 110,616 units
    • Down 15.06% from June 2025
    • Down 11.39% YoY 

🔹 From January to July 2025

  • Total production: 835,331 units, down 5.73% YoY

Breakdown by Vehicle Type (July 2025)

🔸 Passenger Cars

  • July 2025: 38,400 units, down 16.61% YoY

Breakdown:

  • ICE (Internal Combustion Engine): down 31.8% YoY to 21,996 units
  • BEV (Battery Electric Vehicle): up 554% YoY to 3,610 units
  • PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle): up 12.9% YoY to 420 units
  • HEV (Hybrid Electric Vehicle): down 3.9% YoY to 12,374 units

🔸 1-Ton Pickup Trucks

  • July 2025: 71,471 units, down 8.18% YoY

Breakdown:

  • Commercial pick-up: up 14.75% YoY to 11,784 units 
  • Double cab: down 13.23% YoY to 45,160 units
  • Double cab BEV: up 100.00% YoY to 44 units 
  • PPV (Pick-up Passenger Vehicle): down 6.69% YoY to 14,483 units (▲14.58%)

🔸 Trucks & Buses

  • July 2025: Light & heavy trucks: 745 units, down 21.16% YoY 

🌐 Export Production

  • July 2025: 74,100 units, down 15.35% YoY, accounting for 66.99% of total production.

Exported Units:

  • Passenger cars: down 31.34% YoY to17,823 units 
  • 1-ton pickups: down 8.61% YoY to 56,277 units 
    • Commercial pickups: up 44.74% YoY to 6,441 units 
    • Double cab: down 11.40% YoY to 40,152  units
    • PPV: down 18.00% YoY to 9,684  units

🏠 Domestic Sales Production

  • July 2025: 36,516 units, down 2.08% YoY, accounting for 33.01% of total production.

Domestic Sales:

  • Passenger cars: up 2.43% YoY to 20,577 units 
  • 1-ton pickups: 15,194  units, down 6.54% YoY
    • Commercial pickups: down 8.18% YoY to 5,343 units 
    • Double cab: down 24.90% YoY to 5,052 units
    • PPV: up 29.28% YoY to 4,799 units 

Summary

Despite the overall decline in Thailand’s vehicle production, the remarkable growth of BEVs highlights the accelerating shift toward electric mobility in the Thai automotive industry.
