Thailand Car Production Drops 16.19% in June 2024 Due to Decrease in Domestic Sales Production
Thailand's vehicle production in June 2024 reached 116,289 units, marking a 20.11% decline from last year and a 7.82% drop from May. The main factor was a significant reduction in production for domestic sales. which fell by 43.08%
July 25, 2024 - Mr. Surapong Paisitpatanapong, Vice-Chairman and the spokesman for the Automotive Industry Group, the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI), in the press conference, revealed the total production for all vehicles in June 2024.
Total car production
The total number of vehicles produced in June 2024 was 116,289 units, down 20.11% from June 2023 and 7.82% from May 2024. The primary reason was the substantial 43.08% decrease in production for domestic sales, with domestic sales dropping by 26.0%. Production for export also decreased by 3.70%.
From January to June 2024, the total vehicle production amounted to 761,240 units, a decrease of 17.39% compared to the same period in 2023.
Total production of 116,289 vehicles in June 2024, composed of:
- Passenger cars: 43,033 units, 14.45% decrease (YoY)
- Internal Combustion Engine (ICE): 29,894 units, down 23.67%
- Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV): 797 units, an increase of 7,145.45%
- Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV): 598 units, showing a 36.32% decrease
- Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV): 11,744 units, marking a 15.27% increase (YoY)
- Buses under 10 tons and over 10 tons were not produced in June 2024. From January to June 2024, a total of 10 units were produced, a decrease of 87.18% compared to last year.
- Trucks: 73,256 units, down 23.08% (YoY)
- 1 Ton Pickup trucks: 72,417 units, down 21.06% (YoY)
- Pickup truck less than 5 tons – over 10 tons: 839 units, declined 76.06% (YoY)
Car production for export
In June 2024, the car production for export totaled 81,767 units, representing 70.31% of the total production, a decrease of 3.70% (YoY)
- Passenger cars produced for export totaled 23,627 units, an increase of 2.42% (YoY)
- One-ton pickup truck for export at 58,140 units, down 5.98% (YoY)
Car production for domestic use
In June 2024, there were 34,522 units produced for domestic use, representing 29.69% of the whole production, as well as a decrease of 43.08% (YoY)
- The production of passenger cars for domestic sales was 19,406 units, a decrease of 28.74% (YoY)
- One-ton pickup truck at 14,277 units, 52.25% decrease (YoY)
