Car Production in April dropped by 11.02% to 104,667 units.
In April 2024, Thailand's total vehicle production amounted to 104,667 units, a decrease of 11.02% due to a decline in the production of passenger cars and pickup trucks for domestic sales, which dropped by 5.03% and 45.94%, respectively. This aligns with the reduction in sales, caused by high household debt, low economic growth rates, a negative industrial production index for several months, and weak purchasing power.
May 23, 2024 - Mr. Surapong Paisitpatanapong, Vice-Chairman and the spokesman for the Automotive Industry Group, the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI), in the press conference, revealed the total production for all vehicles in April 2024.
Total car production
The total number of cars produced in April 2024 was 104,667 units, a decrease of 11.02% from April 2023, and 24.34% from last month. This decrease is due to a decline in the production of passenger cars and pickup trucks for domestic sales, which dropped by 5.03% and 45.94%, respectively. This aligns with the reduction in sales, caused by high household debt, low economic growth rates, a negative industrial production index for several months, and weak purchasing power.
Total production of 104,667 vehicles in April 2024, composed of:
- Passenger cars: 38,190 units, 5.39% decrease (YoY)
- Internal Combustion Engine: 23,568 units, down 28.84% (YoY)
- Battery Electric Vehicle: 644 units, an increase of 2,476% (YoY)
- Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle: 246 units, showing a 56.77% decrease (YoY)
- Hybrid Electric Vehicle: 13,732 units, marking a 106.43% increase (YoY)
- Buses under 10 tons and over 10 tons were not produced in April 2024. From January to April 2024, a total of 10 units were produced, a decrease of 78.26% compared to last year.
- Trucks: 66,477 units, down 13.95% (YoY)
- 1 Ton Pickup trucks: 65,752 units, down 12.50% (YoY)
- Pickup truck less than 5 tons – over 10 tons: 725 units, declined 65.61% (YoY)
Car production for export
In April 2024, the car production for export totaled 71,928 units, representing 68.72% of the total production, an increase of 5.92% (YoY)
- Passenger cars produced for export totaled 20,792 units, an increase of 5.03% (YoY)
- One-ton pickup truck for export at 51,136 units, rose 6.29% (YoY)
Car production for domestic use
In April 2024, there were 32,739 units produced for domestic use, representing 31.28% of the whole production, as well as a decrease of 34.17% (YoY)
- The production of passenger cars for domestic sales was 17,298 units, a decrease of 15.42% (YoY)
- One-ton pickup truck at 14,616 units, 45.94% decrease (YoY)
