Car Production in January 2024 totaled 142,102 units
Mr. Surapong Paisitpatanapong, Vice-Chairman and the spokesman for the Automotive Industry Group, the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI), in the press conference, revealed the total production for all vehicles in January and the expected total number for 2024.
Total car production
The January production reached 142,102 units. It decreased by 12.46% (YoY). This decrease was due to a reduction in production for domestic sales, which decreased by 33.62%. Specifically, the production of pickup trucks for domestic sales decreased by up to 50.89% in line with the reduced sales volume. Production of passenger cars for domestic sales also decreased by 14.68%. This is in contrast to the import of electric cars, which saw a registered volume of 13,314 cars in January 2024. Meanwhile, domestic production of electric vehicles in Thailand increased by 11.96% compared to December 2023, reaching 652 cars.
Total production of 142,102 vehicles in January 2024, composed of:
- Passenger car production at 52,509 units, 7.27% decrease (YoY)
- Internal Combustion Engine at 32,655 units, 28.95% decrease (YoY)
- Battery Electric Vehicle at 652 units, an increase of 9,214.29% (YoY)
- Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle at 401 units, 59.70% decrease (YoY)
- Hybrid Electric Vehicle at 18,801 units, 94.63% increase (YoY)
- Bus under 10 tons and over 10 tons, at 10 units,16.67 % decrease (YoY)
- Truck at 89,583 units, 15.24% decrease (YoY)
- 1 Ton Pickup truck at 86,788 units, 16.02% decrease (YoY)
- Pickup truck less than 5 tons – over 10 tons, at 2,795 units, 19.29% increase (YoY)
Car production for export
In January 2024, the car production for export totaled 95,110 units, representing 66.93% of the total production, an increase of 3.91% (YoY)
- 27,589 passenger cars, up 0.63% (YoY)
- One-ton pickup truck for export at 67,521 units, 5.31% increase (YoY)
Car production for domestic use
In January 2024, there were 46,992 units produced for domestic use, representing 33.07% of the whole production or a decrease of 33.62% (YoY)
- 24,920 passenger cars, 14.68% decrease (YoY)
- One-ton pickup truck at 19,267 units, 50.89% decrease (YoY)
