Newly Registered Electric Vehicles (xEV) in May 2023
The Next-Generation Automotive Research Center under Thailand Automotive Institute released the report on the new registration of Electric Vehicles (xEV) and electric motorcycles as the followings:
The new registration for Electric Vehicles (xEV) in May 2023 totaled 14,739 units, increasing 35% (MoM), accounting for 17% of the total newly registered vehicles.
- For Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) and Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV), the new registration totaled 8,983 units, comprising 7,958 HEVs, an increase of 49% (YoY) and 1,025 PHEVs, a decrease 3% (YoY) in order.
- The new registration for BEV totaled 5,756 units, a increase of 46% (MoM) and rising of 837% (YoY), according to the steady increasing public interest in EV.
The new registration for motor vehicles in May 2023 totaled 84,412 units, a decrease of 4% from the same period of the previous year. There were internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles totaled 69,673 units, accounting for 83% of the total newly registered vehicles and the growth rate decreased by 14%

In May 2023, the registration for new electric motorcycles totaled 1,431 units, an increase of 12%% (MoM), accounting for 0.7% of the total newly registered motorcycles.
There were only 55 HEVs, while the BEV is still popular. Although the BEV's volume was not much at 1,376 units, it's likely to continue to grow with an increasing 44%

For HEV, the new registration totaled 55 units, increasing 96% (YoY) and the number was more than the previous month which 36 HEV motorcycles were registered.
- The new registration for BEV totaled 1,376 units, an increase of 44% (YoY) and the number rose from 1,238 units in the previous month.
The new registration for motorcycles in May 2023 totaled 202,873 units, an increase of 14% from the same period of the previous year. There were internal combustion engine (ICE) motorcycles totaled 201,442 units, accounting for 99% of the total newly registered vehicles and the growth rate increased by 13%
