DENSO to Localize Inverter Production in India and Thailand to Support EV Demand
Localization to Meet Growing Demand in ASEAN
Nagoya, Japan, July 7, 2025 – DENSO Corporation has announced plans to begin local production of inverters—key components that convert electrical power in electric vehicles—in India and Thailand as part of its strategy to expand electrification capabilities in high-growth markets. Production is expected to start in India as early as 2026, followed by Thailand in 2027.

DENSO’s Inverter Technology and Global Strategy
In addition to its existing production bases in Japan, the United States, Europe, and China, DENSO aims to establish a robust supply network in the ASEAN region and the Global South. This move aligns with the “China Plus One” strategy, which focuses on diversifying manufacturing locations to enhance resilience. By producing in regions where demand is accelerating, DENSO reinforces its commitment to “local production for local consumption.”
New inverter production lines will be set up at DENSO’s existing facilities in India and Thailand. While the global growth of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) has shown signs of plateauing, demand for hybrid vehicles (HVs) and plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHVs) remains strong. DENSO will continue to drive localization efforts not only in developed nations but also in emerging markets.
Inverters play a vital role in EV systems by converting direct current (DC) from on-board batteries into alternating current (AC) to power electric motors. As motors become increasingly powerful and efficient, inverters must be capable of handling high current and minimizing energy loss.
DENSO has been manufacturing inverters since 1997. Its inverter technologies are widely adopted by global automakers, including Toyota Motor Corporation, and the company holds a leading share in the global market. In Japan, production is carried out at the Anjo Plant (Anjo City, Aichi Prefecture) and the Hirose Plant (Toyota City, Aichi Prefecture). Globally, DENSO operates inverter production lines at eight sites, including in North America, Europe, and China. In 2024, the company launched new inverter production lines at DENSO Manufacturing Hungary and DENSO Fukushima (Tamura City, Fukushima Prefecture).
To meet the evolving demands of electrification, DENSO will maintain high product quality while establishing agile, localized manufacturing systems tailored to customer needs. The company aims to boost annual inverter production from 3.49 million units in 2022 to 19 million units by 2030.
