Mr. Ratchasak Kerdphoo, Managing Director of Machine Tech Co., Ltd., stated that 5-axis technology is set to revolutionize manufacturing in Thailand by enabling faster, more precise, and more complex production processes. This technology will help businesses reduce costs, increase productivity, and compete more effectively in the global market. During the seminar, Machine Tech will present solutions from Haas Automation, USA, under the topic “Affordable High Quality with Long-Term Accuracy 5 Axis Machining Center Machine.” This presentation will guide attendees in selecting the right machinery for their budget, ensuring high-quality, precise results. As 5-axis machines come in various forms with different price points and qualities, understanding these differences is crucial for making informed investment decisions.
Mr. Surachai Tangtaratorn, President of HSM Machinery Co., Ltd., highlighted that 5-axis technology is the future of part manufacturing, especially for high-mix, low-volume production. The seminar will feature the topic “YCM’s 5-Axis Solutions,” showcasing 5-axis machines from Taiwan equipped with automation systems for 24-hour operation, ideal for manufacturers handling diverse yet small-batch production.
This event is highly anticipated, featuring comprehensive 5-axis machinery technology from countries such as Germany, the United States, Japan, Taiwan, and China. Attendees will also explore cutting tools, tool holders, 5-axis machining software, metrology and machine monitoring, gaining a broad perspective on these technologies to make more accurate investment decisions.
Mr. Ken Kondo, Managing Director of Okuma Techno Thailand, pointed out the uncertainties in the global economy, leading many manufacturers to predict rapid changes in global supply chains. This shift has already begun, and the question is: how can we adapt to this trend? The answer lies in flexible and efficient investments, such as multi-tasking 5-axis machines. Okuma’s seminar will cover two distinct models of 5-axis machines: an entry-level model for 5-sided machining in a single setup and a full simultaneous for freeform surface processing like die and mold. Additionally, the Thermo-Friendly Concept, Okuma’s intelligent technology, will be discussed, along with the unique OSP controller functions.
Mr. Suthisak Junlamart, Area Sales Manager of Hermle SEA Co., Ltd., a leading German manufacturer of high-performance 5-axis machines, highlighted the growing demand for complex, high-value components in the region. As neighboring countries with lower labor costs focus on producing simpler parts, Thailand is poised to become a hub for advanced manufacturing, particularly in aerospace, semiconductor, medical, and mold-making industries.
Hermle's presentation, 'Milling at its Best…With HERMLE,' will showcase how 5-axis machines have become more user-friendly, opening doors to new customers and projects requiring advanced technology. With modern automation, these machines can operate unattended, helping to address the skilled labor shortage
Mr. Ali Alvi, Sales & Service Director of GFRT Machinery (Thailand) Co., Ltd., the sole distributor in Thailand for Beijing Jingdiao, a leading Chinese manufacturer of high-end, precision CNC machinery, will present the topic "Beijing Jingdiao's 5-Axis Machines." This session will delve into the strengths of Beijing Jingdiao's CNC machines, renowned for their exceptional precision, integrated probing systems, and cutting-edge Jingdiao SurfMill design software.
Mr. Dylan Khor, Managing Director of Tungaloy-NTK Cutting Tool Thailand, emphasized that CNC 5-axis machines are ideally suited for producing complex, diverse parts and are applicable across multiple industries. These machines excel at multitasking, significantly outperforming traditional 3-axis machines in terms of speed and productivity. Consequently, they are perfect for low-volume production and an excellent choice for efficiently manufacturing high-quality components. Tungaloy's presentation, "Tungaloy-NTK: Your Partner in 5-Axis Machining," will cover a wide range of 5-axis machines, CAD/CAM programming, job simulation, and the selection of optimal cutting tools.
Mr. Chuchart Sivavetkul, General Manager of Mygrowtech (Thailand) Co., Ltd., reiterated that 5-axis technology enhances production efficiency by enabling faster machining and delivering superior surface finishes. The seminar will showcase the ease of 5-axis programming with Cimatron 5x and present case studies demonstrating successful implementations, highlighting how Cimatron can provide a competitive advantage over existing technologies.
The Growing Trend of 5-Axis Machines in Thailand
While the use of 5-axis machines has been prevalent in Europe for quite some time, the demand for complex components such as those found in aerospace, medical devices, dental equipment, human implants, mobile phone cameras, and more has been on the rise in Thailand over the past decade. These components cannot be produced using traditional machinery. As a result, investments in 5-axis machines have been increasing globally. Not only do these machines facilitate the production of complex parts, but they also offer several cost-saving benefits, improved operational efficiency, higher precision and speed, and reduced wear and tear costs, making them a highly valuable investment.
A considerable number of factories in Thailand have adopted 5-axis machines. In fact, the demand for these machines has skyrocketed by approximately 25% over the past two to three years, compared to the previous growth rate of 2-3%. This surge includes demand for machines, software, cutting tools, and more. The ability to produce complex components domestically reduces the need for imports, such as aerospace parts and jewelry, and even facilitates the design of food packaging, allowing designers and manufacturers to easily explore creative ideas.
Industry experts reveal that while this technology originates from foreign countries, Thai entrepreneurs need not worry about MA issues, spare parts, or after-sales service. 5-axis machine maintenance and repair services can be provided by local engineers and experts. It is assured that entrepreneurs can seamlessly adopt this technology. Thailand has the capability to sell, install, maintain, provide spare parts, and offer software services.
Furthermore, the Board of Investment (BOI) has introduced incentives to promote investments in high-precision machinery, as outlined in its investment promotion applications. Tax incentives are also available to encourage businesses to invest in automation systems, allowing them to double their expense deductions. Additionally, S-curve industries, such as aviation and logistics, and food processing, are among the sectors that the government actively promotes and supports.
Investments in 5-axis machines depend on the products that businesses intend to manufacture. 5-axis machines are not designed to entirely replace 3-axis machines as they serve different purposes based on the specific components being produced. For instance, for complex parts, 5-axis machines can significantly reduce the time required to load and unload workpieces, resulting in faster production and higher precision. However, 3-axis machines remain efficient for producing general components.
The event organizer invites entrepreneurs, engineers, machine operators, and individuals involved with both 3-axis and 5-axis CNC machines to attend this event. It is the only event that provides a comprehensive overview of 5-axis technology, enabling attendees to apply it to their businesses and expand into new market segments that were previously inaccessible due to technological limitations.
For those interested in attending the "The Utmost Stories of 5 Axis Technology" event, early bird tickets are available for 1,200 baht per day until September 25, 2024. Each ticket grants access to all seminar topics throughout the day, including lunch, coffee, snacks, and exclusive event souvenirs.
