21 September 2020 Bangkok, Thailand – Office of Innovation and Value Creation,Department of International Trade Promotion, Ministry of Commerce, an initiator of DEmarkAwards given to Thai products showing outstanding designs with an aim to encourage product development to widely gain recognition in international markets, invites you to join the DEmark 2020 Virtual Exhibition scheduled to take place late September 2020, via online channels. The virtual event, an attempt to give the exhibition a tweak making it modern and suit the ‘New Normal’ era, will feature a collection of 72 selected and awarded products in seven categories presented in five themes.

All 72 products granted Design Excellence Award (DEmark) in DEmark 2020 Virtual Exhibition are to be displayed with interesting information of the very products and their design concepts. Event participants can take a look at those amazing creations from different angles and connect to Thailand’s online selling platforms. This exhibition will shed light on potentials and advancements of Thailand’s design industry helping it be recognized more in the global arena. The platform will provide a whole new experience to see and understand Thailand’s designed products; connect product owners with buyers and importers who are interested in designs worldwide. This marks a milestone for Thai’s designed products to become known in the international markets.

The 72 works from designers or entrepreneurs are divided in seven categories and displayed using five virtual themed backdrops according to their different identities with comprehensive product information and their design concepts.

• THAI SPIRT – Thai identity is not memorized patterns or designs but it is the spirit and skills passed down from generation to generation and refined through time so it stays contemporary and universal. Thai designed works, thus, have not fixed characteristics; rather it is interpretation based on the spirit of our root.
• DNA CONOMY – Body of knowledge evolved and changed through time has rooted deeply in Thai designers’ DNA and influenced the creation of their unique works that help drive our economy. Good design is not about beauty only but an important cog of Thai industrial system.
• DESIGN WELL BEING – Creative thinking process is a factor contributing to human’ well being and has helped them weather the storm. When technology and design cleverly meet, we can live our life pleasantly and comfortably without leaving burdens to the environment.
• LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL – Earth creates numerous wonderful living creatures. Humans have evolved and developed a body of knowledge refined and passed on; design included. Everything is created for existence. Life is beautiful. Enjoy and be creative.
• THE FUTURE IS CIRCULAR – Future is difficult to predict but we can create our own future. Perspective and ever-developing nature of mankind has created and changed our life for the better minimizing environmental impacts. Despite emerging global crises, mankind’s systematic creativity has always helped us overcome challenges.

Many consumers may not be aware of the capability and potential of Thailand’s product design industry and have no idea of how much it has advanced. Realizing the importance of promoting products with excellent design to the international arena and supporting entrepreneurs to add values to their products, to Thailand’s future economic development , Office of Innovation and Value Creation, Department of International Trade Promotion, Ministry of Commerce initiated Design Excellence Award (DEmark) in 2008 giving opportunity to Thai designers and entrepreneurs to present their works to the global market. This project is developed from the ‘Thai-Owned Design’ category of the Prime Minister's Export Award (PM Award) which was usually granted to producers and exporters with outstanding product development process. Presently, DEmark award emphasizes more on quality of production, functions and concepts of product design. Apart from being a stage for talented Thai designers to compete, it is also a gateway to international competitions. Winning products receive the DEmark label which is domestically and internationally trusted guaranteeing outstanding product design. The label is an efficient marketing tool to build consumers’ confidence in the products. Moreover, the awarded products will be promoted through media and at events to gain public attention.
